 Village Calendar Competition 2011
97.Posted:    January 30, 2011 - 05:42 PM ,    By:    Community Council Calendar Team

Although there was a slight reduction in the number of calendars sold for  2011, this Community Council project was once again successful.  We welcome Trevor Smy onto the calendar team and thank Chris Hunt for his support over the last two years.

So we come to the photographic competition for 2012; the year of our Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, a year of celebration, which will hopefully be reflected in the photographs entered.  Nayland is beautiful and vibrant.

The competition to find thirteen suitable photographs will be staged, as before, on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May in the Church Hall and all the entries will be on public display during the afternoon.

We welcome photographs which represent our beautiful parish and our thriving community; this may include scenic views, community activities and events, street scenes, any seasonal aspect of the parish, plus this year architectural or natural features.  They should however, be recognisable as being in Nayland or Wissington.  If entrants wish a short comment about the photograph can be given.

The Community Council look forward to your participation in the presentation of our ‘Village’ calendar.  There is no age limit, the aim is to make it an enjoyable community project.

For full details and an application form see the home page of the Nayland and Wiston website.

 HortSoc News
98.Posted:    January 23, 2011 - 03:47 PM ,    By:    Nayland HortSoc

A happy horticultural New Year to you all.

HortSoc would like to thank everyone for their support of our stall at the Christmas Fayre, whether donating items, manning the stall or purchasing items.  This helped us raise funds towards running the Summer Flower Show.

While this is generally a fairly dormant time in the garden the committee have been active finalising a busy schedule for this year and the first event is an illustrated talk on ‘Photography’ by Geoff Meadowcroft on 15th March.  Geoff, who is judge at the Flower Show and the Calendar Competition, will hold a question time to answer all your photographic queries.

Following the success of our inaugural Spring Flower Show this event will be held again on Saturday 26th March in the Church Hall – full details and an entry form are on our website w ww.naylandhortsoc.org.uk.  We would be very grateful for donations of cakes, or prizes for the raffle – please drop them into 60 Bear Street beforehand or at the Church Hall early on the day of the show.
Entries for the show should be brought along between 8.15am-9am as judging will need to take place before the public display and coffee morning opens at 10am.  Winners of each class will be awarded a certificate.

Membership for 2011 is now available and amazing value at just £2 for single or £3 for joint membership.  Application forms are available on our website or at any of our events.

Following the popularity of our first coach outing another is planned, this time to Great Dixter House & Gardens and Merriments Gardens on 7th June – further details and a booking form can be found on our website w ww.naylandhortsoc.org.uk.  This is open to all, not just HortSoc members, so please spread the word and invite your friends.  That said, these are renowned garden venues which we believe will be very popular so book early to avoid disappointment.

We have introduced a few new classes to our Annual Flower Show on 6th August – schedules are being finalised and will be available in mid March.

Wiston Road, Nayland – Affordable Housing Scheme
100.Posted:    January 18, 2011 - 01:35 PM - Updated ,    By:    Babergh District Council

Five Properties for Local People.

The new development on Wiston Road in Nayland is nearing completion, with properties available for rent by the end of March, as planned.  These two and three bedroomed properties, all for affordable rent, have been built to meet the housing needs of local people who have a connection with Nayland and Wissington.

We have been advised that these properties should be advertised for letting on the Gateway to Homechoice website from the beginning of February, so please monitor the website from 2 February 2011, for the opportunity to ‘bid’ for a property.

People wishing to be considered for a property must register an application on the Choice Based Letting System called Gateway to Homechoice, and then ensure they make a bid for a property when they are advertised.   More information and an application can be made online, at the following website: w ww. gatewaytohomechoice.org.uk

If you have any other queries about the scheme, please contact Flagship on 0845 601 3390.

A partnership approach has contributed to the success of this scheme with involvement and support from Nayland-with-Wissington Parish Council, Babergh District Council, Flagship Suffolk Heritage and Suffolk ACRE.
